Dear Brother or Sister OAF's:
Thank you for your interest in the OFES. Enclosed is your membership card for the society; lifetime membership is totaly free of charge. The only membership requirement is that in signing the card, you submit to the OFES "oath" which states thusly "I like big old greasy rusty oil field engines". This is how you join just as all other Oafs have done before, simple as that.
The OFES were started as an idea for a club, of social and fraternal society for the people who like old oil field engines. Seeing that there was none existing at the time for this purpose, serveral of the oil field engine enthusiasts in the Ohio and Indiana area started to consider the prospect of starting such a society. So a banner was made that said "Oil Field Engine Society".
The "Oafs"; we thought this would be just some kind of a gag or joke, but as people saw the banner at the shows, they started to inquire as to how they could join this society. So we printed some cards for the next show and told people, if you wanted to join, just raise your right hand and take the Oafs "oath". This has gone over so well and everyone has seemed to enjoy it that even some of the clubs have inquired as to how they can get Oil Field Engines at their shows. Before a show can be officially O.F.E.S. sanctioned, it was decided that the club must supply fuel for the exibit and free camping for the exhibitor.
All members of the society are known as Brother or Sister "OAFS". The OFES as a policy are informal with no officers or lists of membership. As a member of the society, you are free to use its name in any appropriate manner. Feel free if you wish, to print cards and start taking on new mebership youself.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me or need help in anything concerning this or your engines. As a society, we will strive to help each other as much as possible.
The Gas Engine Magazine has been so nice as to allow for us a monthly column in its publication; therefor if you have anything you would like to share such as stories, pictures, etc. feel free to send them to me and I'll put them in as they come.
Again, thank you for your interest and feel free to call or write anytime. O.F.E.S.
